Why The Ever-Changing Google Remains A Constant?

Be it a question on calculus or the algorithm to a tricky program, we refer to Google when we're at our wits end. It is incomprehensible when told that Google didn't exist prior to 1998 ! What is further bewildering is that the generation of our fathers never had access to this facility that is to the present generation like the 'One Ring' was to Gollum. And this success story of Google's takeover of our lives doesn't even have a Bilbo Baggins tricking it or Sauron going gung-ho sending horsed riders looking for it. Well, there was Bing! in the running to be the next Google, but frankly speaking, Bing! has not done its claims any justice. Therefore, it's only logical to embrace Google's reign as the premier search engine of our time.

We might as well agree unanimously that Google has become from merely an omnipotent search engine to a vital cog of our life. Be it our timely emails delivered by Gmail, +1s and chats using Google+ or workplace banter enabled by Google Groups, Google is essentially the Skynet in our lives, albeit a hell of a lot less diabolic. While many digress the idea of AI-powered sites being so powerful, it turns out to be rather amusing to imagine where one would be without Google and it's numerous inputs on our life.

I very often chide my mom for typing out websites' names on Google rather than the address bar, but that's one of the many ways that it has spoilt us. It's just a shot in the arm when you receive closely matching suggestions when you search for something you're not sure of. Also, sometimes answers are just a Google Search away, when the Search Results page displays the answers you require without you having to open further links. Now, imagine going through the pain of remembering the latest conversion rates or visit low bandwidth-high traffic sites to calculate how many rupees does your latest PayPal balance amount to. Google has essentially bought us many precious minutes of our life by being compact, precise and accurate.

The fact that slowly email, social media, office work and applications, and what not, are being brought under the same hood clearly underlines Google's master plan of  homogenizing and thereby monopolizing the internet. While unrivaled monopolies tend to crumble in real life, Google has thrived to cater the finest essential services to its users. Now Google has also launched the Chrome OS, with a plan to be the finest OS across all platforms, with Android already wearing the crown in the mobile department. It is just a boost for the user as homogeneity across multiple devices and services only leads to better sync, thereby quickening processes.

Though Google has gone from strength to strength, from being a search engine to the mammoth it is now, one thing has remained constant : the impact Google has in our lives. It is immeasurable and cannot be quantified as it is like the glue that keeps various sections of our life together. While one wouldn't appreciate the glue getting too strong and soppy, as things stand now, we owe Google half the information and accessibility of our lives.
